How To Get $10,000 From The City of Philadelphia Towards Your First Home Purchase

The City of Philadelphia’s Division of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) supports the City of Philadelphia’s Philly First Home program, which offers a home buyer assistance grant of up to $10,000 (or 6% of the purchase price, whichever is less) to help first-time home buyers — This grant is to assist with down payment and/or closing costs, and will be provided while funding is available!

Who is Eligible?

To be eligible for the Philly First Home Program, you must be a first-time home buyer or a buyer who has not owned a home for at least three years, and must be purchasing a single-family home or duplex in Philadelphia. Note that purchases of condominiums are not eligible for the grant, and if you move or refinance before living in the home for 15 years, the grant must be repaid.

Requirements For Qualification

To qualify, individuals must complete a City-funded home ownership counseling program before singing an Agreement of Sale. These counseling programs will teach you about buying a home within your budget, best practices for mortgages and applications for mortgages, money management and home maintenance, deeds and other legal housing documents, and ways to improve, repair, and maintain good credit!
