Take a Trip - Old City

The historic heart of Philadelphia, Old City is home to more than just Independence Hall. Spanning from Vine to Walnut street, and 7th Street to the Delaware River, Old City is part of Philadelphia’s Historic District. From Independence National Historical Park, to the busy Market Street restaurant scene, Old City is a small and welcoming neighborhood of artists, business owners, and families alike.

Why We Love It

Home to key historical sites in the founding of the United States, Old City is where The Liberty Bell, National Constitution center, and several notable museums reside. Along the Delaware River waterfront, family-friendly events are held year round, restaurants and bars serve delicious meals with plenty of outdoor seating, and the neighborhood is full of galleries and museums to explore.

Neighborhood Feel

Charming, quiet, but with no shortage of entertainment and attractions, Old City provides residents with a welcome break from the fast pace of Center City. Small businesses, art galleries, restaurants and bars line each street, as well as boutiques and theaters, giving Old City a vibrant nightlife. On the first Friday of every month shops and galleries take their work to the street, with art walks and other monthly First Friday events scheduled for the neighborhood.

Our Favorite Restaurants

A long time staple of Old City dining, Fork restaurant has been in Old City since 1997, and continues to serve classic modern-American bistro favorites. High Street on Market is an all day bakery and eatery, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with house-made breads, delicious pastas, and phenomenal deserts. Other Old City favorites include La Peg Brasserie by the waterfront, and Morgan’s Pier, a perfect place to grab cocktails and some appetizers with friends!

Arts and Culture

Explore the Official Trail of Philadelphia’s Historic District to discover key historic sites, as well as popular museums like the Independence Seaport Museum and The National Constitution Center. Putting on seasonal plays and musicals, The Arden Theatre Company also provides educational programs for children, including online options!

Local Parks

Although Independence National Historical Park takes up most of the spotlight for Old City parks, there are many other outdoor parks to enjoy! Independence Square and Washington Square provide plenty of shaded space to lay in the grass or soak up some sun, but Carpenter’s Hall is one of our favorite Old City parks, with historic buildings, walking paths, and tons of space to lay in the sun!
