Here’s Your Guide to Holiday Events in Philadelphia in 2021

Happy Thanksgiving! The kickoff to the holiday season is here. This is the time to reflect on what we’re grateful for and all of the blessings we have. The days around Thanksgiving, November 24-28, 2021, officially mark the beginning of a holiday season in Philadelphia. Here’s a guide to all of the Thanksgiving and holiday season activities taking place this year in Philly:

 

Thanksgiving Day Parade

Thursday, November 25, 2021 | 8:30 a.m. to Noon

The kickoff to holiday festivities is the 6abc/Dunkin’ Thanksgiving Day Parade to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway! The parade features floats, live performances, dancers, balloons and even a visit from Santa and Mrs Claus.

 

Black Friday & Small Business Saturday

Friday, November 26, 2021 & Saturday, November 27, 2021

Shop til you drop and take advantage of the Black Friday deals! Then make sure to support local on Small Business Saturday. There are plenty of places to shop including big brand name stores, local shops and boutiques and pop up shops in holiday markets and villages.

 

Christmas Village at Love Park

Thursday, November 25, 2021 through December 24, 2021

This epic Christmas Village is filled with more than 100 wooden booths with vendors selling local and international goods like ornaments, accessories, clothes, food and beverages & more. Plus, over near City Hall, there are more vendors plus a double-decker carousel! The Ferris Wheel is also coming back this year.

Winter at Dilworth Park

Opens November 1, 2021

Dilworth Park is transformed into a winter wonderland! Here you’ll find an ice skating rink, a ski-chalet inspired pop-up cabin with seasonal cocktails and food, a holiday market with local makers, and a lights show!

November 18, 2021 through February 27, 2022

In Franklin Square during the holidays, you’ll find an incredible light show with more than 150,000 lights! The show is every 30 minutes from 5 to 9 pm. Plus there’s tons of food, drinks, fire pits, heated tents and mini-golf and a carousel.

Tree Lighting Celebration

Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 7 p.m.

This annual tradition invites residents and visitors to see the tree in front of City Hall light up with more than 4,000 lights!

 
 

LumiNature at the Philadelphia Zoo

November 18, 2021 through January 9, 2022

The Philadelphia Zoo is turned into a winter wonderland with more than a dozen illuminating and interactive experiences like illuminated flamingos, a huge holiday tree, illuminated penguins and 21 foot tall colored snake. This is a great activity for kids! Buy tickets ahead.

 

A Longwood Christmas at Longwood Gardens

November 19, 2021 through January 9, 2022

The famous Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square transforms into a holiday dream with a Longwood Christmas. This year’s theme is fire and ice. Enjoy a dazzling light show with sparkling trees, a waterfall, a tunnel of light and beautiful fountains. Buy timed tickets ahead!

 

Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest

November 26, 2021 through March 6, 2022

Go ice skating on the Delaware River waterfront! This is the city’s largest outdoor rink with cozy cabins, fire pits, dazzling lights and a holiday tree.

This classic South Philly tradition is an epic display of decorated homes along the 1600 block of South 13th Street. The neighborhoods go above and beyond with their decorations that are illuminated every night!

Boathouse Row Festival of Lights

November 28, 2021 through January 1, 2022 (select dates)

Boathouse Row lights up with festive holiday colors for Hanukkah on November 28 – December 6, 2021, and Christmas December 20-25, 2021, and Kwanzaa December 26, 2021 – January 1, 2022. You can watch the show from Fairmount Water Works or on the Schuylkill River Trail just off Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Saturday, January 1, 2022 | 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

If there is one Philadelphia tradition you do not want to miss, this is it! The New Year’s Day tradition dates back to 1901 and is an epic parade with 10,000 people dancing through the streets of Philly along Broad Street from City Hall to Washington Avenue.
