Take a Trip - Northern Liberties

One of Philadelphia’s best neighborhoods for food and drink, Northern Liberties is incredible walkable, and packed with an international collection of restaurants to enjoy. Populated largely in the mid 1990’s, Northern Liberties is home to a heavy population of artists and makers, and was initially popular for it’s affordable studio space.

Why We Love It

Today, Northern Liberties, referred to by locals as NoLibs, is an incredibly popular neighborhood for new Philly residents, with a strong network of local business owners and entrepreneurs. Stretching from Girard Avenue and Callowhill Street to the Delaware River and 6th street, traveling to and from NoLibs is simple, using the SEPTA Market-Frankford Line or local trolley.

Neighborhood Feel

Formerly one of Philadelphia’s neighborhoods on the rise, Northern Liberties is now a proper neighborhood of it’s own. With an art and dining scene to rival Center City, NoLibs is a perfect neighborhood for young professionals and new families looking to enjoy the luxuries of city life without the hustle and bustle of high-rise living.

Our Favorite Restaurants

A favorite for NoLibs residents and Philadelphians alike, Café La Maude is a French-Lebanese BYOB restaurant with an incredible all day brunch menu. Hands down one of the best restaurants in Northern Liberties, Apricot Stone is an Armenian BYOB restaurant that always draws a crowd. Other local favorites include Ken Love’s (formerly Jaxon’s BYOB) with relaxed environment is perfect for a Friday night meal after a long week at work, and and Sputino Philly.

Arts and Culture

Northern Liberties Arts provides an array of programs and courses for every age, from pumpkin painting to tie-dye workshops. Art Star Gallery and Boutique hosts a gallery supporting new artists in rotating exhibitions, with a boutique shop for artists.

Local Parks

Liberty Lands, the only public green space in Northern Liberties, is a well-loved oasis with a playground, icnic area, and a stage which hosts a variety of community events. The Northern Liberties Recreation Center is a perfect place for neighborhood kids to spend their summer afternoons, with a pool, playground, free improv shows, and more.

Schools

Northern Liberties is part of the Kearny Catchment, serviced by General Philip Kearny Elementary, and Benjamin Franklin HS. You can find out more about area schools here or by searching on the District website here!
