Take a Trip - Chestnut Hill

A charming and picturesque neighborhood, just 25 minutes from Center City, Chestnut Hill is packed with green spaces, shops, and beautiful mix of historic mansions and Victorian row houses. A National Register Historic District, Chestnut Hill is surrounded by parks, giving residents plenty of options for places to spend a sunny afternoon.

Why We Love It

Less than 30 minutes from Center City, Chestnut Hill allows residents to easily access the city via the Chestnut Hill East SEPTA line, making it a popular option for workers commuting to Center City. The 10 block span of Germantown Ave, Chestnut Hill’s main street, boasts historic homes, cobblestone blocks, and original building facades, honoring the architectural history of 19th Century Philadelphia.

Neighborhood Feel

Welcoming, peaceful, and surrounded by activities and places to explore, Chestnut Hill is one of our favorite Philly suburbs. With annual events like the Chestnut Hill Home and Garden Festival and Restaurant Week, Chestnut Hill residents are part of a community atmosphere, supporting each other and their locally owned businesses.

Our Favorite Restaurants

A favorite for locals, Tavern on the Hill provides a cozy and comfortable space with the kind of warm ambiance that only years of experience can create. Other popular local spots include Mica Restaurant, a seasonal dining establishment in a beautiful historic home, and Chestnut Hill Brewing Company, which serves delicious wood fired pizzas and craft brews.

Arts and Culture

On the busy Germantown Avenue, the Woodmere Art Museum sits in a 19th-century stone mansion, and has been open to the public since 1910. This museum combines art and nature through outdoor sculpture exhibits, and beautiful works of framed art (they have online collections you can explore here!).

Local Parks

With 57 miles of hiking, biking, and walking trails, Wissahickon Valley Park is one of the most popular local parks for those who call Chestnut Hill home. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Morris Arboretum is both a resource center for the University of Pennsylvania, as the official arboretum of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and a beautiful place for Chestnut Hill residents to explore. They also have a horticultural center on site at the Morris Arboretum, which provides educational opportunities for families and students, and a lush landscape to wander through on a sunny day.

Schools
