Take a Trip - Bella Vista

The first Philly neighborhood settled by Italian immigrants, Bella Vista’s original heritage shaped so much of what the neighborhood has become today. This family-friendly pocket of South Philadelphia has it’s own unique character, charm, and community feel. Home to the 9th Street Italian Market, the oldest operational open-air market of its kind in America, Bella Vista is as rich historically as it is culturally!

Why We Love It

Bella Vista is a short walk from Old City, where visitors can find hotels and multiple SEPTA lines, including the Broad Street Line and the Route 47 bus. Bella Vista offers visitors an impressive selection of dining options, from brunch spots to late-night eats, and is an incredibly walkable neighborhood, although parking can be a bit difficult in this area.

Our Favorite Restaurants

On South 9th St, a local favorite, Alma De Mar, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. Their menu is comprised of delicious seafood entrees, to mouth watering appetizers. Featured on Netflix’s Queer Eye, Alma De Mar underwent a drastic transformation and is ready to celebrate their new restaurants with flavors to die for. Other Bella Vista area favorites include Bistrot La Minete, a well-loved French Restaurant, and Villa De Roma, a no frills Italian Restaurant with the perfect menu.

Arts and Culture

For tourists and Philadelphians alike, a visit to the Philadelphia Magic Gardens will never disappoint! The Da Vinci Art Alliance hosts exhibitions that are free and open to the public, as well an array of programs for locals, and, the Fleisher Art Memorial also provides a large selection of courses and programs to participate in.

Local Parks

A beautiful outdoor green space, Palumbo Park is a favorite for Bella Vista residents, as well as the Palumbo Recreation Center. Nearby Barsdascino Park is another popular destination for family and friends to relax outdoors, and the Bella Vista parks are all maintained by a group of local volunteers looking to directly support their community.

Schools

Bella Vista is part of the Nebinger Catchment Area and Jackson Catchment Area of the School District of Philadephia and you can find out more about area schools here or by searching on the District website here!
